"The fund we are presenting will make it easier for our islands to make the green transition a reality. The funds will help to connect the islands to the electricity grid of mainland Greece," Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said at the signing ceremony for the establishment of the Island Decarbonisation Fund, held in Naxos.
"It is a great pleasure and a happy occasion that we are on this beautiful island, in front of the unique landmark of Naxos, to announce the signing of an important financial instrument for our islands," Mitsotakis said, stressing that insularity requires special care from the state and that the government has proven that it is close to the islanders.
"We are changing and making the lives of islanders better," the prime minister added, noting the great importance of the country's overall national strategy "to turn the sun and wind into a national asset, as he said.
"I am watching with concern the rhetoric being developed by extreme parties against renewable energy sources. It is completely flawed logic. Renewable energy will enable the country to gain energy autonomy and will contribute to reducing energy costs," the Prime Minister stressed.
"We want to use this tool so that entrepreneurs with small photovoltaic systems can also meet production needs," he added, among other things.
Kyriakos Mitsotakis stressed that "all this literature against renewable energy sources is dangerous and not patriotic because it is not patriotic to import natural gas and oil when we can exploit domestic sources of energy, which God has generously given us."
