The total value of imports in October stood at €7,163.7 million against €7,273.1 million in the same month of 2023, showing a decrease of 1.5% in euros, according to ELSTAT.
The corresponding value excluding petroleum products showed an increase of 648.0 million euros, or 12.4%, while excluding petroleum products and ships demonstrated an increase of 640 million euros, or 12.3%, compared to the month of October 2023.
On the other hand, the total value of exports was 4,000.6 million euros ($4,375.6 million) compared to 4,436.1 million euros ($4,699.7 million) in the same month of the year 2023, showing a decrease in euros of 9.8%. Excluding petroleum products showed an increase of 154.2 million euros, i.e. 5.1%, and the corresponding value excluding petroleum products and ships demonstrated an increase of 149.4 million euros, i.e. 5.0%, compared to the month of October 2023.
The trade deficit in October last year stood at EUR 3,163.1 million (USD 3,412.7 million) compared to EUR 2,837.0 million (USD 2,959.4 million) in the same month of the year 2023, showing an increase, in euro terms, of 11.5%. The corresponding value excluding petroleum products in the month of October 2024 showed an increase in the deficit of EUR 493.8 million, or 22.1%, while the corresponding value excluding petroleum products and ships was up EUR 490.6 million, or 22.0%, compared to the month of October 2023
The 10-month period
The total value of imports in the period January-October 2024 amounted to EUR 70,187.2 million (USD 76,063.2 million) compared to EUR 68,964.6 million (USD 74,283.1 million) in the same period of the year 2023, showing an increase, in euro terms, of 1.8%. The corresponding value excluding petroleum products showed an increase of EUR 1,967.4 million, i.e., 3.9%, and the corresponding value excluding petroleum products and ships demonstrated an increase of EUR 1,922.8 million, i.e., 3.8%, compared to the period January-October 2023.
The total value of exports in the period January-October 2024 amounted to 41,871.1 million euros (45,643.8 million dollars) compared to 42,974.0 million euros (46,562.7 million dollars) in the same period of the year 2023, showing a decrease in euros of 2.6%. The corresponding value excluding petroleum products increased by EUR 274.0 million, or 0.9%, and the corresponding value excluding petroleum products and ships increased by EUR 281.2 million, or 1.0%, compared to the January-October 2023 period.
The trade deficit in the period January-October 2024 amounted to 28,316.1 million euros (30,419.4 million dollars) compared to 25,990.6 million euros (27,720.4 million dollars) in the same period of the year 2023, showing an increase in euros of 8.9%. The corresponding figure excluding oil products showed an increase of EUR 1,693.4 million, i.e., 8.0%, and the corresponding figure excluding oil products and ships demonstrated an increase of EUR 1,641.6 million, i.e., 7.7%.
