The Athens Stock Exchange completed its sixth consecutive bullish session, with selective positioning and resilient sentiment abroad absorbing volatility and geopolitical concerns.

The Athens Stock Exchange completed its sixth consecutive bullish session, with selective positioning and resilient sentiment abroad absorbing volatility and geopolitical concerns.

Thus, the Greek market, boosted by the surprise upgrade of Scope, continued its climb to 1,502 points, hitting a new 2-month high and "clipping" below 40 points the distance from this year's "peaks".

And all this, while there are still 14 sessions left until the end of 2024, with this year's average return hovering at least at +13%, which means that barring the unexpected, Athens will achieve its 4th consecutive profitable stock market season.  

Specifically, in the first session of the new week, the General Index recorded a modest increase of 0.58% to 1,464.96 points, gaining about 8.5 points compared to Friday's close (1,456.52 points).

The arc of daily fluctuations was fixed at 15 points (from 1,450.68 to 1,465.15 points), with a turnover of 144 million euros, of which 9.8 million euros were pre-agreed packages.

The banking index, boosted by JP Morgan's new price targets, continued its climb, ending up +1.65% and 1,301 points. In fact, it only "dropped" to -3.8% from its yearly highs. All this in the shadow of the new debate on the level of commissions and fees.

NBG shares stood out at +3.83% and 7.746 euros, Piraeus shares followed at +1.11% and 3.919 euros, Eurobank shares closed up +0.63% and 2.25 euros (a new 9-year high), while Alpha shares rose +0.33% and 1.6485 euros.

In the high-cap index (+0.67% ca 3,575 points), Helleniq Energy's shares expanded +3.4% and recovered 7 euros after Edison acquired 50% of Elpedison for 164 + 31 million euros. Viohalco's shares also gained more than 2%, returning to the 5.5 euro area. Lamda, Metlen and Ellaktor gained between 1.8% and 2.2%, while shares of Motor Oil, Sarantis and Aegean were at least +1%. In contrast, Cenergy and Coca-Cola shares retreated by 1.8%, with EYDAP shares falling by 1.1% and OTE shares falling below 15 euros (-0.7%).
