Turnover in accommodation and food services fell sharply in September, while turnover in short-term rentals showed strong growth, following a trend that has characterised the whole quarter since July.
In comparison, according to ELSTAT data, turnover in the accommodation and food services sector as a whole was down year-on-year by 21.4% year-on-year in September, following corresponding declines of 21.2% in August and 27.3% in July.
Turnover was hit hardest in food service and accommodation establishments, which reported turnover down 23.3% in September, following -22.9% year-on-year in August and -27.9% in July.
As for accommodation establishments, they reported a 12% annual decline in turnover in September, following annual declines of 14.2% in August and 20% in August.
This is probably explained by the parallel jump in turnover in rental and leasing activities, up 32% in September, 29.3% in August, and 24.1% in July.
At the same time, air transport in September recorded an explosive 51.1% year-on-year increase in its own turnover in September, after + 13.5% year-on-year in August and +29.1% in July.
Ferry transport also saw double-digit turnover growth, at +12.6% in September, up from +11.1% in August and +15% in July.
