
The Athens Stock Exchange returned to the buyers, with selective placements setting the tone of the transactions in the shadow of the new interest rate cut by the ECB.
As a result, the Greek market remained on track to converge with the large target of 1,502 points, which constitute the highest point not only in 2024 but also in the last 13 years.
However, on the other hand, it is clear that, after the recent jump, Athens has slowed down, with investors moving to assimilate the gains. Let's not forget, after all, that the December yield is over +5%.
In this environment, in the 4th session of the week, the General Index rose slightly by 0.44% to 1,464.03 points, gaining about 6.5 points compared to Wednesday's close (1,457.60 points).
The arc of daily fluctuations was fixed at 10 points (from 1,456.86 to 1,466.11 points), with a turnover of 137 million euros, of which 33.9 million euros related to pre-agreed packages.
The banking index, which gained more than +12.5% in December, was almost unchanged at +0.15% and 1,292 points, pending the government's official decisions on commission cuts.
Piraeus shares were up +1.53% and 3.909 euros, Ethnikis shares followed at +0.52% and 7.77 euros, Alpha shares traded +0.43% and 1.622 euros, while Eurobank shares were limited to -1.38% and 2.21 euros, with 15.7 million euros in packages.
In the high-cap index (+0.51% and 3,573 points), Metlen's shares stood out at +2.1% and 33.8 euros thanks to Citi's top pick, with Helleniq Energy, Aegean, PPC and Jumbo following at +1%. At the same time, shares of Motor Oil, Titan and Ellaktor closed up +0.7% to +0.8%. On the flip side, GEK Terna retreated controllably to -0.6% and EUR 18.4. AIA, EYDAP and Autohellas lost 0.9%, 1% and 1.1%, respectively.
As for the mid-cap index (-0.05% and 2,298 points), Austriacard's share continued its upward reaction, as it climbed +1.7% and EUR 5.82. PPA shares also rose by 1.7%, approaching EUR 30 again. Intralot and Kri Kri, meanwhile, returned to EUR 1 and EUR 15, respectively. On the other hand, Intrakat shares slipped -0.9% and 4.7 euros. Dimand-Fourlis shares also fell by at least 1%. A special mention should be made of Alumyl, which climbed to a 16-year high of 4.2 euros.
