The Athens Stock Exchange ended today (17/12) close to the daily lows, with sellers holding the reins for the second consecutive session.

The Athens Stock Exchange ended today (17/12) close to the daily lows, with sellers holding the reins for the second consecutive session.

Specifically, in the second session of the week, the General Index recorded a notable decline of 0.80% and stood at 1,452.80 points, losing at least 11.5 points compared to Monday's close (1,464.48 points).

The arc of daily fluctuations was fixed at 14 points (from 1,451.33 to 1,465.09 points), with a turnover of 122 million euros, of which 7.6 million euros related to pre-agreed packages.  

The banking index, in the wake of government initiatives to cut commissions, fell for the second consecutive session as it closed down -1.02% at 1,272 points. As a result, the cumulative losses for the week reached -2%.

NBG''s shares narrowed to -1.55% and EUR 7.60, Alpha's shares fell to -1.40% and EUR 1,585, Piraeus' shares traded at -0.98% and EUR 3,846, while Eurobank's shares retreated to -0.36% and EUR 2,195.

In the high-cap index (-1.03% and 3,531 points), Jumbo's share folded significantly to -2.8% and 25.3 euros, with OPAP's share losing 2.4% and sliding to 15.4 euros. OTE, Motor Oil, ELVALAHALKOR and PPC lost at least 1%. At the same time, shares of Cenergy, Coca - Cola and Helleniq Energy followed with a drop of up to 0.9%. On the flip side, shares of Autohellas and Titan Cement gained 1.7% and 1.4%, respectively, with the latter returning more than EUR 39.

As for the mid-cap index (+0.01% ca 2,322 points), Kri Kri shares stood out negatively at -1.97% and "fell" below the record 15 euros. Shares of Intralot, Intracom and Quest lost between 0.8% and 1.2%. In contrast, AVAX shares climbed +2.6% to EUR 1.54, continuing to "pick up" this year's losses. EYATH shares also gained 2.1%, while shares of Austriacard, Ideal Holdings and PPA finished above +1%.
