SETE President Yannis Paraschis described tourism as the strong card of the Greek economy, a source of prosperity and social cohesion, during his speech at the Association's conference on Shaping the Future of Tourism.
Referring to the particularly positive performance of Greek tourism in 2024, despite the geopolitical turbulence and challenges of the European economy, he stressed that our country has managed to maintain a stable growth trajectory.
Paraschis focused on the five main axes—priorities—which the current Board of Directors had set at the beginning of its term of office a year and a half ago and relate to investment and competitiveness, the strengthening of infrastructure, the establishment of DMO's for the management and promotion of destinations, the improvement of employment and labour market issues, and sustainability, taking stock of the achievements.
Furthermore, in particular to shield competitiveness and a positive investment climate, the SETE President referred to four critical sub-issues, namely taxation, short-term rentals, spatial planning and access to finance and development programs for tourism businesses.
Paraschis did not fail to mention the initiatives of the Ministry of Labour for the increase of the minimum wage and the implementation of the digital card, stressing that employees are the critical capital of the tourism sector.
Finally, he called for the cooperation of all stakeholders to support businesses and workers in the sector.
