The reaction of the Athens Stock Exchange to yesterday's selloff on Wall Street, as well as to today's selloffs in Europe, proved to be absolutely calm.
The Greek market not only managed to reverse the negative picture, which prevailed throughout the session thanks to the Federal Reserve, but also "turned" into positive territory, even if only marginally, finishing at the highest point of the day.
This diversification in relation to the outside, according to analysts, was a resounding statement of confidence, which keeps the scenario of a convergence with the "tops" of 1,502 points within the last days of 2024 "alive.".
Specifically, in the 4th session of the week, the General Index posted a subtle 0.04% gain, erasing all intraday losses (temporarily exceeding -1%) and closing at a daily high of 1,456.28 points.
The arc of daily fluctuations was fixed at 16 points (from 1,440.24 to 1,456.28 points), with a turnover of 95 million euros, of which 2.8 million euros related to pre-agreed packages.
The banking index absorbed the initial pressures with... professionalism, resulting in a +0.62% gain to 1,294 points, remaining close to the target of 1,300 points and this year's "peaks" of 1,348 points.
Eurobank shares rose +1.13% and 2.236 euros, followed by ΝΒG shares at +0.88% and 7.778 euros, Piraeus shares traded +0.43% and 3.932 euros, while Alpha shares fell -0.44% and 1.587 euros.
In the high-cap index (+0.09% and 3,546 points), Titan Cement shares climbed +2.3% and returned to the record high of 40 euros. OTE shares also expanded +1.3% and 14.7 euros. On the flip side, shares of Coca-Cola (4th consecutive decline) and Cenergy lost 1% each, while shares of Helleniq Energy (despite the sale of DEPA Emporia), Metlen, Viohalco and Motor Oil were down by up to 0.9%. ELVALHALKOR and EVDAP declined by 1.3% and 1.5%, respectively.
As for the mid-cap index (+0.02% ca 2,319 points), Dimand's shares stood out negatively at -3.7% and 8.00 euros, "falling" to a year low. Ideal, Lavipharm, Intracom and AVAX lost between 0.9% and 1.4%. On the other hand, PPA shares recovered above 30 euros (+1.1%), with Profile and Quest shares gaining 1.1% and 1.3%, respectively. At the same time, ADMIE shares closed at 2.6 euros (+0.7%), with the optimistic developments of the last few days leading to a new 3-year high.
