
The Athens Stock Exchange continued in positive territory for the 5th consecutive session, with selective support from Metlen and PPC leading the market to a new 14-year high.
Significantly, the close found the General Index at its high of the day and 1,530 points, which had not happened since April 2011, improving to a perfectly satisfactory +4.1% on the 2025 yield so far.
All this while investors' attention is focused on the other side of the Atlantic, as Donald Trump is scheduled to be sworn in as President of the United States this afternoon. Of course, Athens' focus is mainly on the issue of trade tariffs, which is scaring the whole of Europe.
Specifically, in the first session of the new week, the General Index rose slightly by +0.41% to 1,530.87 points, gaining six points compared to Friday's close (1,524.67 points).
The arc of daily fluctuations was fixed at seven points (from 1,523.74 to 1,530.91 points), with a turnover of 157.1 million euros, of which 31.5 million euros related to pre-agreed packages.
ΝBG shares gained +1.80% and €8.48 (new 10-month high), Piraeus shares followed at +1.18% and €4.37 (new 4-year high), Eurobank shares corrected -1.61% and €2.45, while Alpha shares fell -0.73% and €1.765.
In the high-cap index (+0.50% and 3,738 points), Metlen's shares expanded +2.7% and 33.9 euros, recording the second-best session of 2025. PPC shares gained +1.6% and 12.7 euros, boosted by analysts' high price targets, while Titan Cement shares continued to climb to historic highs, closing +1.7% and 43 euros. Lamda and Jumbo followed at +0.9% and +1.6%, respectively. On the flip side, Helleniq Energy's shares fell -2.3% and EUR 7.5, as it was trading without the right to the EUR 0.20 preference dividend as of today. ELVALHALKOR's shares plunged -3.4%, with AIA's shares following at -1.4%.
As for the mid-cap index (-0.23% and 2,406 points), Noval's share stood out negatively at -2.5% and 2.3 euros, with Intralot, ΕXAE, Quest, Profile and Lavipharm shares limited by -1% to -2.1%. Conversely, Ideal shares rose +1.3% to +1.3% and EUR 6.0, thanks to the impending acquisition of Barba-Stathis. Shares of PPA and Technical Olympic expanded by +1.9% and +1.5%, respectively, while shares of ADMIE were up +0.9% and 2.7 euros.
