The new Board of Directors of the Skaramagas Shipyards, which will manage the facilities of the former Hellenic Shipyards, was constituted today.
Mr. George Prokopiou, civil engineer and shipowner, will be the chairman, and Mr. Miltiadis Varvitsiotis, lawyer, former Minister, and Member of Parliament, will be the managing director. Other members of the board are Mr. Nicholas Dendrinos, a shipbuilder, and Ms. Dimitra-Ioanna Lourida, a shipbuilder and mechanical engineer.
Skaramanga Shipyards has already started its commercial activities since February and has welcomed 11 vessels for repairs, including a 275-metre Suezmax tanker, a 228-metre LR1 tanker, two Aframax tankers of 268 and 228 metres, two container ships of 176 and 140 metres, a 100-metre tanker, and three mega yachts of 106, 72, and 47 metres.
A major programme of repairs and upgrades to infrastructure and equipment is also being carried out at Skaramagas Shipyards to enable it to provide high-quality services to the vessels it hosts for repairs.
On May 22, the Commander of the Government Authority of Military Industries (GAMI) of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Mr. Ahmad Al Ohali, accompanied by the Managing Director of Saudi Arabia Defense Industries (SAMI), Mr. Walid Abukhaled, and the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to Greece, Dr. Saab Alammar, visited Skaramanga Shipyards. The visitors were welcomed by Mr. Prokopiou, and the meeting was followed by a tour of the shipyard premises.
This year, Skaramanga Shipyards will be present at the International Maritime Exhibition Posidonia 2024, which is being held at the Metropolitan Expo from June 3 to 6, after an absence of many years.
