Passenger traffic at Greek airports up 12.2% in the first quarter
All 39 of the nation's airports that handle commercial flights saw a 12.2% increase in passenger traffic in the first quarter of this year compared to the same period last year.

An increase of 12.2% compared to last year was recorded in passenger traffic in the first quarter of the year for all the country's airports with commercial flights (39 airports: 24 CAA, 14 FRAPORT GREECE, AIA).

Specifically, according to the data of the Civil Aviation Authority, the total number of passengers in the period January–April 2024 reached 12,586,931, compared to 11,223,043 passengers in the corresponding period January–April 2023.

Among the 24 airports managed by the CAA, Heraklion "Nikos Kazantzakis" airport was the one that handled the largest number of passengers in April 2024, with an increase in domestic passenger arrivals of 13.7% compared to April 2023. Specifically, in April 2024, domestic passenger arrivals in Heraklion were 69,628, while last year in April 2024, they were 61,240 passengers. In terms of total domestic and international passengers (departures and arrivals), Heraklion airport handled 487,303 passengers in April this year, compared to 468,324 passengers last year.

Regarding the number of aircraft movements (arrivals and departures of domestic and international aircraft) in the first quarter of 2024 for the total of 39 airports in the country, whose air traffic control is exercised by the CAA, there was an increase of 6.4% compared to the corresponding period of January–April 2023. In particular, 108,623 flights took place in the first quarter of 2024, compared to 102,079 flights in the first quarter of 2023.
