One area where Greece is currently succeeding well in its attempt to draw in "digital nomads"—a term that is becoming more and more popular to characterize people who travel freely or relocate frequently while working remotely via technology and the internet—is cyber security.
According to data released this month from the Global Remote Work Index 2023, the “digital nomads” surveyed ranked Greece sixth worldwide for cyber security—ostensibly one of the fields such professionals consider when picking where to set up their remote office.
Nonetheless, the well-liked vacation spot in the eastern Mediterranean receives a lower score on the three factors that Nordlayer employed to create a comparable index.
Thus, out of 108 countries surveyed, Greece ranks a pitiful 35th in terms of "social security," 42nd in terms of "economic security," and 46th in terms of "digital and physical infrastructure," with the latter category clearly reflecting Greece's long-standing issue of having relatively expensive and slow broadband in comparison to other EU nations.
