METRO AEBE recorded an increase in turnover and profitability in 2023 despite the challenging market conditions.

Consolidated net sales reached €1.590 billion, up 6%. Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) amounted to €77.5 million compared to €61.3 million in 2022 (up 26.5%). Earnings before taxes amounted to €31.0 million compared to €28.3 million in the previous year, (up 9.6%). Earnings before taxes correspond to 1.95% of net sales.

As the company reports, despite the ongoing high inflationary pressures affecting households, the ongoing legislative interventions in trade policy, the climate crisis and geopolitical instability in Europe that had an impact on sales and product availability, METRO assesses another year positively.

In a general environment of margin pressure across the industry, the company achieved satisfactory profitability compared to 2022, which stems from its strategic planning and investment moves in network development, energy savings and technology utilization.
