The Athens Stock Exchange completed the 4th consecutive negative session, which failed to defend the support of 1,436 points, resulting in closing below the average of the last 50 days.
Today was also the last day of May, which "left" with a decline of more than 1.1%, once again confirming the "Sell in May" motto and making it the second down month of 2024 (after March). And on a weekly basis, the decline amounted to 3.1%.
As for today's session, in particular, the General Index recorded a new decline of 0.56% to 1,431.84 points, losing eight points compared to Thursday's close (1,439.91 points).
The arc of daily fluctuations was fixed at nine points (from 1,431.53 to 1,440.78 points), with trading turnover soaring to 383 million euros due to rebalancing in MSCI indices.
The banking index continued the sideways movement of the last few days, ending at -1.29% and 1,241 points. The share of National Bank narrowed to -1.72% and EUR 7.98, Alpha Bank followed at -1.52% and EUR 1.551, Piraeus Bank's share fell to -0.61% and EUR 3.608, and Eurobank's share closed at -1.13% and EUR 2.012.
In the high-cap index (-0.83% and 3,453 points), Motor Oil shares lost 2.4% and folded to 26.0 euros. OTE, Titan Cement and Jumbo contracted by around -2%, with Autohellas' shares down 1%. In contrast, Cenergy's shares climbed 3.8% and returned to historic highs of EUR 9. Viohalco's shares followed at +3.4% and 6.3 euros, while Hellaktor made a dynamic close (+2.2%), receiving a boost from the AGM's approval of the capital return.
As for the mid-cap index (+1.42% and 2,345 points), PPA shares stood out positively at +3.9% and 25.2 euros, thanks to resilient first quarter figures. Intralot shares, for their part, "flew" by 5.4% to 1.17 euros. Intracom Holdings shares were also impressive, climbing 6.7% to 3.7 euros. ADMIE also gained 1.6%. On the flip side, the shares of EYATH and Techniki Olympiaki contracted by 1%.
