The inauguration of the Regional Operations Center for Civil Protection Thessaly and the new facilities of the Regional Fire Administration of Thessaly, now housed in the offices of the region in Larissa, was attended earlier today by the Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
Then Mr. Mitsotakis toured the facilities of the operational center and was informed about its capabilities in terms of coordinating actions to address natural disasters and the use of meteorological and geospatial data, while he had the opportunity to talk with members of the Fire Department.
"It is our obligation to support Thessaly in this difficult and long recovery process, but at the same time to shield it against similar phenomena that may occur again in the future. But also to tackle the structural problem of water scarcity in Thessaly, which is not new," the Prime Minister stressed.
Mr. Mitsotakis said that the total cost of reconstruction in Thessaly after the "Daniel" and "Elias" disasters will exceed 3.5 billion euros.
The Prime Minister stressed that if the circumstances had been different, it would not have been easy to find this money, but today "the combination of resources from the State Budget and significant additional absorption of European funds makes us optimistic that we will be able to bear the cost of this reconstruction and reconstruct what was destroyed with much better quality than before.".
