The Athens Stock Exchange managed to recover almost everything it lost yesterday, with buyers winning the battle of the bias, despite the fact that the distance from this year's highs (1,502 points) remains at -4%.

Nevertheless, it is clear that the Greek market needs more fuel and higher turnover in order to overcome the process of "digesting" the gains and re-approach the 1,500 resistance level.

More specifically, during today's session, the General Index recorded a significant increase of 1.34% and closed near the daily highs of 1,443.74 points, gaining 19 points compared to Tuesday's close of 1,424.69 points.

The arc of daily fluctuations was fixed at 20 points (from 1,425.12 to 1,445.93 points), with a turnover of 115 million euros, of which 11.9 million euros were pre-agreed packages.

On the board, OPAP has now climbed more than 4% and recovered 15 euros, with Mytilineos, Jumbo and OTE shares trailing by up to 2%. Noval Properties also had a positive opening, gaining around 1% and topping 2.8 euros.

The banking index, despite the morning jitters, managed to pick up pace, finishing +1.50% and 1,254 points, pending developments on the dividend issue.

Piraeus shares rose +3.76% and 3.724 euros, Alpha Bank shares rose +2.60% and 1.58 euros, Eurobank shares were almost unchanged at 2.033 euros; and National Bank shares traded +0.66% and 3.724 euros.

In the high-cap index (+1.49% and 3,492 points), OPAP shares climbed 4.06% and returned to 15 euros. Shares of Mytilineos, EYDAP, Lamda and GEK Terna followed by around 2%, with the former recovering to 37 euros. Beyond that, shares of Autohellas, Aegean, Jumbo, Elvalhalcor, Ellaktor, OTE and Terna Energy expanded by at least 1%. In contrast, Viohalco's shares retreated by almost 1%, with Quest's shares losing 0.7%.

As for the mid-cap index (+1.11% and 2,340 points), Intralot's share stood out positively at +2.1% and EUR 1.16, with Intracom Holdings' share following at +1.8% and EUR 3.6. PPA, HKE, Premia and Ideal, meanwhile, expanded by around 2%, while shares of ADMIE and Kri-Kri were up 1.8%. On the flip side, Dimand's shares fell -0.9% to EUR 8.4 (historical low).
