It is time for Maximou to decipher the election result, which brought New Democracy below the 33% threshold.

Under the microscope of the meetings the Prime Minister had with his close associates was the first analysis of the reasons that led about one million citizens not to vote for New Democracy yesterday compared to last year's national elections.

Government officials speak of a difficult election from the outset as, according to the first reading, the reasons for the decline in New Democracy's ratings are multifactorial

As they point out:

  • The citizens who supported New Democracy in 2023 knew that now no government is elected and they faced this battle differently.
  • In the run-up to the election, there was a lack of substantial reflection on the future of Europe and Greece's place in it.
  • There were many voters who wanted to protest about everyday issues, the most important of which was punctuality.
  • In any case, Kyriakos Mitsotakis is taking initiatives for the next day. The Prime Minister will give an interview tomorrow afternoon on the Alpha TV station in order to give answers to the election conclusions.

He will also meet the new MEPs of New Democracy at 10am at the Maximou Mansion and have a meeting with Freddy Beleri.

From the Prime Minister's statement yesterday, however, it is presumed that at the political level, the next bets on the horizon are related:

With the acceleration of reforms in areas with a direct reflection on the everyday lives of citizens,.
Addressing with greater intensity the problems of society, with the number one issue being precision, which is putting a strain on the family budgets of thousands of households,.
Against this backdrop, a quote from the Prime Minister's statement yesterday about "more work and fewer weaknesses, more effort and fewer failures" fuels the scenarios for a reshuffle of the government.

According to ERT, the prime minister, who, it must be recalled, is not a fanatic of frequent reshuffles and intervenes with corrective moves in areas where he identifies problems or delays, has not yet put his cards on the table. It is likely that the reshuffle will take place on Wednesday or Thursday.

In any case, based on the analysis of the election result, he will weigh his options, and a first milestone this week could be Friday's cabinet meeting.
