"We knew there would be dissatisfaction, but we must fight tax evasion," said National Economy and Finance Minister Kostis Hatzidakis, commenting on the link between the unfavourable election result and the taxation of freelancers.

Speaking to SKAI, he said that of the 75,000 professionals who filed a declaration of income, only 255 challenged the presumption.

The Finance Minister noted that as technology and means of control improve, the tax will come closer to reflecting actual income.

Regarding the possibility of reducing VAT, Mr. Hatzidakis said that if we go ahead with a reduction, it will create a budgetary gap that must be filled somehow.

Commenting on the election result, he said that there are a number of battles that have to be fought on a day-to-day basis, such as in the areas of poverty, health, the police, and the judiciary.
