A surge in the flow of Turkish tourists to Greece was recorded in 2023, while Turkey ranked very high in the preferences of Greeks -specifically in third place—in the same year.
In 2023, there was a 90% increase in the number of Turks visiting Greece compared to 2022 (from 478,000 in 2022 to 877,00 in 2023).
Turkey was the third most popular tourist destination for Greeks in 2023. 570,000 Greeks traveled to the neighboring country in 2022, and 686,000 did so in 2023 (an increase of 20%).
The Turkish Tourism Promotion and Development Agency (TGA) and the Turkish Culture and Tourism Office in Greece organized a workshop to strengthen cooperation between Turkey and Greece in the field of tourism and promote various regions and forms of tourism with a focus on Cappadocia, where Serkan Gediq, the consul general of Turkey in Thessaloniki, presented the data showing an upward trajectory in tourist flows.
Noting that there is great potential, especially regarding Northern Greece, as geographical proximity and positive perception from both sides are important advantages, Gediq observed that both sides do not need large tourism campaigns for their tourism promotion, but the presentation of different destinations.
