EDP Renewables (EDPR) is expanding its presence in Greece by inaugurating its second project, the wind farm "Erimia,"  in Malesina, Fthiotida. According to the company, this new project marks another important step in EDPR's effort to reduce thousands of tons of CO2 emissions annually while providing clean energy to thousands of households and contributing to the country's efforts to transition to clean energy.

71 GWh PER YEAR

The investment in the Desert Wind Farm reinforces EDPR's commitment to strengthen local communities, improve quality of life, and promote economic progress, the announcement said. The 'Desert' wind farm has an installed capacity of 35 MW and includes 6 wind turbines with a capacity of nearly 6 MW each. This project is expected to generate about 71 GWh per year, reduce CO2 emissions by about 50,000 metric tons per year, and provide clean energy to over 18,000 households in the region annually.

"Since entering the Greek market in 2018, EDPR has been boosting clean energy generation through a strong number of projects in various stages of development, including wind, as well as solar farms and stand-alone storage systems in the country. With the inauguration of the Eremia wind farm, EDPR is almost doubling its energy footprint in Greece, reaching 80 MW of installed capacity and developing over 100 MW of additional projects currently under construction," the company said.

"For EDPR, the inauguration of the second renewable energy project in Greece not only marks a firm commitment to the country's decarbonisation targets but also a valuable contribution to the well-being of local communities. Greece is a country in which we invest steadily and confidently, supported by its remarkable progress in energy policies. This project reflects our commitment to creating a cleaner future," said EDPR's General Manager in Greece, Dionysios Andronas.

Adonis Georgiadis, the minister of health and vice president of the New Democracy, Carles Casajuana, the ambassador of Spain to Greece, and Athanasios Zekentes, the mayor of Lokros, were among those who attended the wind farm "Hermia"'s inauguration ceremony.
