"Tourism development should be sustainable, fair, and participatory; the growth dividend should be distributed as fairly as possible throughout the country," Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis stressed in a discussion with the President of the Association of Greek Tourism Enterprises, Yannis Paraschis, at the 32nd Annual General Meeting of SETE at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Centre.
Mitsotakis insisted that "we cannot be complacent with our performance; our competitors are not standing still. Investing in quality and sustainability".
The Prime Minister noted that the frontline of the government's policy for the second four-year period is to increase wages, "something that is already happening in the tourism sector," and asserted that the government will be particularly strict in complying with labour legislation, which he said should be absolutely self-evident. "Tourism workers should be well paid and happy with their working conditions," Mitsotakis said.
In fact, according to AP, the prime minister reiterated when asked about this that "as soon as there is fiscal space, the first intervention will be the reduction of employer contributions."
Kyriakos Mitsotakis insisted that "2023 was a milestone year for tourism and added that "we have every reason to be satisfied with the performance of tourism both in general indicators of arrivals, income, and employment and in terms of crisis management, such as the one that occurred on a particular island and was dealt with immediately."
