Cenergy Holdings announces that Hellenic Cables, its cable business, has signed a contract with Elia Asset NV/SA, in joint venture with DEME, for the engineering, procurement, construction, and installation (EPCI) of high-voltage submarine cables. This important project is part of the ambitious Princess Elisabeth Island initiative to strengthen renewable energy infrastructure in Belgium. For Hellenic Cables and DEME, this award is an important milestone, as it follows the successful execution of the MOG1 project for Elia, in which both companies participated a few years ago.
The project envisages the delivery by Hellenic Cables of a three-export 220 kV HVAC submarine system of three HVAC cables with a total length of 165 km. These cables are to connect the artificial energy island within the Princess Elisabeth wind farm area to the Belgian coast. According to the contract, Hellenic Cables will be responsible for the study, design, construction, and supply of the 220kV AC submarine cables, as well as for the related components, assembly, termination, and related testing, commissioning, and maintenance of the submarine cable system (export cable system).
The three 220kV export cables are expected to be constructed in 2026 and 2027, and the installation is expected to be completed in 2027. The cables will be manufactured at Hellenic Cables' vertically integrated state-of-the-art submarine cable plant in Corinth.
Alexis Alexiou, CEO of Cenergy Holdings, said: "Following the successful delivery of MOG1 a few years ago, we are excited to be working with ELIA again on this ground-breaking project. Our participation in the Princess Elisabeth Island project not only reinforces our commitment to advancing renewable energy infrastructure but also demonstrates our ability to deliver complex and innovative solutions globally. We look forward to executing the project safely and contributing to Belgium's transition to a more sustainable energy future."
