The competitiveness of the European economy, the Single Market, and European industrial policy, with an emphasis on defence, were the focus of a meeting between Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and the European Commissioner for the Internal Market, Thierry Breton.
During the meeting, which took place at the Maximou Mansion, the Prime Minister reiterated that the Single Market is not only about businesses but also about consumers, stressing that it must operate with more competition and transparency for the benefit of consumers.
Mitsotakis stressed that in a single market, it is not acceptable to sell similar or identical products at different prices, depending on the size of the market, to the detriment of consumers.
At the same time, Mitsotakis analysed the proposal, which has been formulated in his letter to the President of the European Commission, Ursula Fin der Leyen, for the adoption of legislation at the level of the European Union to effectively address the policy of Geographical Supply Restrictions.
The meeting also discussed the European defence strategy and the need to strengthen and finance the European defence industry and production in order for the EU to reduce its dependence on other systems.
