"The election may be a thing of the past, but not its message,"  Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said in his weekly review, stressing that the government will accelerate the pace of its work, especially on issues of precision, in line with the demands of citizens.

Mr. Mitsotakis mentioned the permanence of reduced VAT rates for taxis and take-away delivery of coffee, while he stressed that more market controls will be carried out. He also mentioned the 33% extraordinary levy on the excess profits of refineries, while he stressed the digitization of the AESEP in order to speed up recruitment procedures.

Referring to the field of public health, Mr. Mitsotakis stressed that last week, the decree for the implementation of the prevention programme for colon cancer was signed. This programme is aimed at 2.8 million men and women, aged 50–69, and includes everything from free self-diagnostic tests to free biopsy tests in case of findings, he said.

Mr. Mitsotakis also mentioned the programme to support tourism in the Daniel-affected areas of Thessaly and Evros and the government's interventions to protect victims of domestic violence.

On fires, the prime minister said that firefighters and civil protection forces have been fighting fires almost since March, having managed to tackle dozens of dangerous outbreaks before they threatened the lives and property of our fellow citizens.

"Another 700 forest firefighters have been recruited, the number of "forest firefighters" units has increased from 6 to 16, and 25 state-of-the-art drones are being used for surveillance in the mountains of Attica. I would like to ask all citizens to help in the national effort to protect our forests and to follow the instructions, especially on high-risk days, to avoid outbreaks of negligence. Even a spark can be dangerous. That's why we don't burn grass, light outdoor grills in areas with dead grass, do work that creates sparks, or throw out lit cigarettes. It may be obvious to many of you that these guidelines are self-evident, but unfortunately, we continue to see negligence play its part. That is why we need to keep repeating it," Mitsotakis said.

Finally, the Prime Minister concluded his post by congratulating the Greek athletes who took part in the European Athletics and Wet Track and Field Championships and stressing that the next stop for them is France and the Paris Olympics.
