The Athens Stock Exchange is trying to break away from the critical support of 1,400 today today (1/7), trying to start the second half of 2024 positively.

The result of the French elections is undoubtedly the focus of interest, with analysts, despite the prevalence of Marine Le Pen's party in the first round, "betting" on the scenario of a non-absolute parliamentary majority for the far-right.

It is precisely this expectation that is "fueling" the rally in European markets, with the CAC 40 index in Paris climbing over 2.5% and the Stoxx 600 following at least +1%.

Against this backdrop, in Athens, the General Index is up mildly by 0.71% to 1,414.23 points, gaining around 10 points compared to Friday's close (1,404.26 points).

The arc of the daily fluctuations extends to seven points (from 1,409.56 to 1,416.84 points), with the turnover of the transactions ranging at 6 million euros in the first 20 minutes.

On the board, now Piraeus and Alpha Bank are dynamically gaining more than 2%, with Eurobank, OTE and Ethniki following by at least 1%. Beyond that, Metlen is trying to recover 35 euros, while Intralot remains in positive territory.

The banking index is in the focus of buyers, climbing +1.66% and 1,233 points, thus narrowing the gap to -8.5% from the year's highs.

Piraeus shares are up +2.29% and €3.484, Alpha Bank shares expand +2.40% and €1.56, Eurobank shares trade +1.43% and €2.05, while Ethniki shares rise +1.49% and €7.90.

In the high-cap index (+0.40% and 2,257 points), the share of OTE in the new era under Kostas Nebis is up +1.3% and 13.6 euros. Sarantis and Viohalco also rise by at least 1.5%, while shares of Elvalhalcor, Helleniq Energy, and Coca-CCola follow at around +1%. Metlen's shares, meanwhile, gain 0.6% and return to 35 euros.

As for the mid-cap index (+0.44% and 3,889 points), ADMIE's share stands out positively at +1.3% and 2.20 euros, with Optima Bank's share following at +1% and 12.1 euros. Ideal, Intrakat, EXAE, Intracom, and PPA, for their part, are gaining around half a percentage point. On the other hand, the shares of Techniki Olympiaki are down 0.8%.
