"Our economy created 430,000 new jobs in the past five years, and today we have 520,000 registered unemployed. So if we continue at this pace, the shortages that we see today in tourism, in construction, and in agriculture will be everywhere. So what do we do? The goal of every government, including ours, is that every Greek can work", said Alexis Patelis, economic advisor to the Prime Minister, who spoke today on ERTNews, UPDATE, and journalist Thanos Siafakas, about employment and the government's 15-point plan to reduce unemployment.

"However, we see that in our country a small, low percentage of the population is participating in the labour force, that is, either looking for work or unemployed, and we see that the main difference compared to other countries is in the categories, that is, women have the third lowest participation in the labour force, especially in the European Union. Especially for women, let me remind you that the government passed a law in 2020 that set a minimum quota of 25% on the boards of directors of listed companies to be women, and there was a lot of resistance." continued.

He also added: "If we manage to attract more women, other young people, other older people, and of course people with disabilities to the labour market, this will benefit not only those people who will find a job and have a more pleasant life, but also the whole economy, which will be able to grow faster. But let's see what else we can do. During the summer, we will look at all this and have a concrete plan. Day nurseries and family support, and in particular, the state, could subsidise day nurseries in large companies. In addition, the flexibility dimension, that is, the hours and how one takes parental leave and the option of teleworking, should perhaps be made compulsory for young parents. There are various measures that can be considered to make it easier for a parent."
