Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis assured that the next national elections in Greece will be held on time, in 2027, from the podium of the 28th annual Economist Government Roundtable conference, held at the "Konstantinos Karamanlis" Golf Club in Glyfada, recalling that he had said the same in his first four years in office, contradicting those who believed otherwise.

"ND remains the dominant political force in Greece. The second and third parties are lower than our share. Clearly, we had set a target similar to what we had in the 2019 European elections. But we did not achieve it, and I take the messages from citizens very seriously. Of course, there was some fatigue due to the continuous elections, which also led to abstention.

But there were also many citizens who used the European elections to send a message, especially on the cost of living, which is at the top of our agenda. At the same time, however, the European elections did not change the fundamental political dynamics," Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said in a discussion with former Italian Prime Minister Enrico Letta.

"In 2023, we had a national election where we got 41%. We managed to show that there is a centre-right party that appeals to many citizens, and people who identify themselves as right-wing and progressive of the centre rallied under this umbrella, and this was not a sure thing for other European parties, which led us to a very strong parliamentary majority. We have four years with a strong mandate to implement reforms. In the first four years, we had to stabilize the country, and I think we did it," he added.

The prime minister underlined that the goal of the next four years is to close the gap with Europe. "We will push for a reform agenda; the elections will be held in 2027, and we will be judged on the outcome of what we have achieved at the end of the four years. We have a fresh mandate to push forward strong reforms," the prime minister said.

In response to a query about the incident of Rishi Shunak canceling the meeting during the Greek prime minister's visit to London, he stated that working with a Labour government "can only get better."

He also said that the Greek economy was growing faster than the whole of the EU and noted that Greece was an attractive destination for investment. "We have created 400,000 new jobs, and if we continue to implement our reforms, then we will achieve the targets we have set by 2027," he said, underscoring that two are the key objectives of the government: the reduction of unemployment by creating new jobs and, secondly, the shielding of the disposable income of citizens.

Kyriakos Mitsotakis stressed that he is a convinced reformer, and the mandate he received is to focus on reforms with measurable results. "The message was to get to work and achieve the results you committed to," he said.
