Entrepreneurship in Greece continues to grow positively, despite the difficulties of the domestic and international environment, according to the latest data from the General Register of Commerce and Industry (GEMI) for business registrations and deletions at the Athens Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) during the first half of 2024.
According to the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, entrepreneurship in Greece is on the upswing, with the number of businesses that began operations in the first half of 2024 nearly four times higher than the number of businesses that were de-registered.
As the data shows, during this period, the registration-deletion balance strengthened by 15.8%, reaching 3,787 in 2024 from 3,271 in 2023. More specifically, new registrations increased significantly to 5,092 in the first 6 months of 2024, compared to 4,646 in the same period in 2023. At the same time, the number of deletions remained relatively stable, increasing slightly from 1,375 in the first six months of 2023 to 1,385 in 2024. Additionally, commercial and industrial enterprises were the next most common sectors for new business registrations.
Commenting on these figures, the President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mrs. Sophia Kounenaki Efraimoglou, said: "The significant increase in new business registrations in Greece confirms the positive dynamics of Greek entrepreneurship. Despite the difficulties, Greek businesses continue to innovate and grow, creating new services and jobs, thus strengthening the Greek economy. We must continue to support them with favourable policies for entrepreneurship and investment, promoting sustainable growth and productivity transformation.".
