The prime minister of Greece, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, a conservative, congratulated Keir Starmer on his party's resounding victory in the UK general election, which ended 14 years of frequently turbulent Conservative rule.
“Congratulations to Keir Starmer on winning the UK general election. The Greek government is ready to work together to further deepen the close friendship and cooperation between our countries,” Mitsotakis said in a post on social media platform X on Friday.
The Conservatives, led by Rishi Sunak, had their worst ever performance in the party's history as voters punished them for a crisis in the cost of living, inadequate public services, and a string of scandals. The centre-left Labour party won a resounding majority in the 650-seat parliament.
