As expected, the Central Electoral Commission in Tirana has just decided to remove the elected mayor of Himarra and elected EU MP, Freddy Beleris, from office. The decision was taken on the basis of the law on the decriminalisation of public officials and employees if there is a final criminal judgment against them by the courts.
As is known, Freddy BeleriS was finally tried last Friday with a two-year prison sentence by the Court of Appeal of the Anti-Corruption and Organized Crime Court for electoral corruption. Freddy Beleris is entitled to appeal to the Electoral Court within a week.
If today's decision remains in force in the Electoral Court, then the Central Electoral Commission will inform the President of the Republic in two days, who will set the date for early elections in the Municipality of Himarra, which must be held within 40 days.
Prisoner Freddy Beleris attended today's hearing at the Central Electoral Commission with the help of the police, who saw it as a continuation of all the plots against him.
