Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on the sidelines of the NATO Summit in Washington, DC.
According to government sources and the Athens News Agency, during the meeting, issues of international and regional interest were discussed, with an emphasis on the latest developments in the Middle East and Ukraine.
The two leaders, the sources added, briefly reviewed bilateral relations after their last meeting in Ankara last May.
The prime minister welcomed cooperation with the Turkish authorities in the fight against illegal migration.
The two leaders agreed on the mutual benefit of maintaining a climate of calm in bilateral relations. They also agreed to intensify cooperation to achieve the goal of doubling the volume of bilateral trade. They also discussed their next meeting to be held in September in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.
The Prime Minister referred to the Cyprus problem, stressing that 50 years after the tragedy of 1974, Cyprus, an EU member state, cannot remain divided and reiterated the need to resume talks for the resolution of the Cyprus problem.
