"There is no issue of water privatization," assured the Minister of Environment and Energy Theodoros Skylakakis at the Committee on Institutions and Transparency during the hearing of the nominees proposed by the Ministers of Interior, Environment & Energy, and Rural Development & Food for appointment to the positions of vice chairman and five members of the Board of Directors of the Waste, Energy, and Water Regulatory Authority (RWAEY).
Mr. Skylakakis stressed that "no matter how much the opposition talks about water privatization, there is no such intention" and wondered why such a discussion is being held "when it is completely irrelevant to reality."
"It is really a shame to waste precious political time with political debates on a non-issue. Especially when water is one of the few national issues due to the climate crisis, which should—just as for the Thrace issue, there is a perception that there is no need for fruitless debates—water should also be a subject of fruitful debate between the parties," the minister said.
