The Greek Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, was present at the signing of the contract for the construction of the "Athenian Riviera.".
"An idea that seemed at the time to be very obvious. Is it possible that we have this unique coastal front and there is no way to cross it from one end to the other? Perhaps we too did not realise the very great difficulties we had to overcome in order to transform the project from an idea into a project with funding and a timetable for implementation," he said.
According to him, the project will be completed in September 2025 or, at the latest, in December 2025.
"I was reading an article in the Financial Times about the Athenian Riviera. Indeed, the development footprint is very important and not at the expense of local communities," Mitsotakis said, noting that Elliniko is a project that the government received as an idea and is now in the implementation phase. "We want to be sure that the development will not be at the expense of the local residents," he stressed.
Kyriakos Mitsotakis spoke about the importance of the project for the quality of life of all coastal municipalities.
"We need more bike paths and pedestrian walkways in combination with our strong emphasis on upgrading transport," he noted, referring to the new electric buses in Athens and the density of routes.
"We will be following the implementation of the project very closely, and we are committed to being here at the inauguration to ride my bike, which I prefer as a cyclist. First and foremost, it will improve the quality of life of the residents," concluded the Greek Prime Minister.
