Kostis Hatzidakis, the Minister of Economy and Finance, held a secret meeting with the bankers on July 8, as the Athens News Agency states. This is according to sources at the Ministry of Finance, and the meeting was essentially a follow-up to the minister's June 25 speech to the Hellenic Bankers Association.
At that time, Hatzidakis had said that not settling the issue of supplies offered nothing to the banks, the government, or society. And he had called on Greek banks to adopt more equitable systems, based on the practices of other European banks or firms with large networks of customers in Greece, so as to avoid the need for government legislative intervention.
