The construction of Helleniq Energy's first self-production photovoltaic power plant was completed at the energy group's industrial facilities in Megareon.
This is a 3 MW energy offsetting station, which will cover 40% of the annual electricity needs of the facility. It will operate for 25 years and provide significant environmental benefits, contributing substantially to the avoidance of CO2 emissions and the reduction of the carbon footprint by 2600 metric tons on an annual basis.
On the occasion of the delivery of the photovoltaic plant, the Head of the Helleniq Renewables Business Unit, Dr. Sotiris Kapellos, said: "This project is further proof that Helleniq Energy is leading the way for a cleaner and more sustainable future by promoting the development of green power generation for own consumption at the Group's main fuel production, storage, and handling units. At the same time, with the PV self-generation station covering a large part of consumption with renewable energy production, we are also contributing to load reduction in the national distribution network, as more than 80% of the energy production is synchronized with the energy consumed."
As part of its "Vision 2025" strategic plan, the company is making investments to upgrade its traditional activities while implementing energy-saving and energy autonomy projects in its facilities.
It is recalled that Helleniq Energy has a portfolio of 4.3 GW of projects under development and 0.7 GW in the advanced stage, while the achievement of its target of 1 GW in operation within 2025 is considered a given.
