While foreign direct investment (FDI) in Europe is on the decline, Greece's attractiveness as an investment destination continues to grow.

51% of respondents who participated in the sixth edition of EY Greece's major annual survey, EY Attractiveness Survey Greece 2024, plan to develop or expand their business in Greece over the next year, while 69% of respondents believe that Greece's attractiveness will improve further in the next three years.

This year's edition of EY Greece's survey on the attractiveness of Greece as an investment destination was conducted by FT Longitude with the participation of 250 executives from foreign companies between 8 March and 4, 2024.

The findings of the survey were presented by EY Greece's CEO, Mr. George Papadimitriou, at the opening session of the 7th InvestGR Forum 2024: Charting the Future, which took place on July 17 in Athens.

According to the EY European Investment Monitor (EIM), an extensive database that tracks investment in greenfield projects, 50 FDIs took place in 2023 in Greece, compared to 47 in 2022, ranking Greece 19th among the 45 countries in the survey. Cumulatively, investments in the last two and three years represent, respectively, 25% and 33% of the investments recorded by the survey since its launch in 2000.

This year's survey also confirms the trend towards an improvement in the qualitative composition of investment, with the emphasis shifting towards knowledge-intensive and high-value-added activities and sectors critical to changing the productive model of the economy, such as software and information services (24%), professional and business services (16%), and transport and logistics (16%).
