Intrakat undertook a brand-new hydraulic project in Western Greece.

This is the contract "Reclamation works in the lakeside areas of Amvrakia, Amfilochia and Valtos Phase A, South Aitoloakarnania", with a budget of 64.5 million euros, which was signed today in Messolonghi by the General Manager of Intrakat Group, Mr. Anastasios Aranitis, in the presence of the political leadership of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport and the local authorities.

The land reclamation project includes irrigation and flood control works, sewerage and drainage works and water transport and distribution for irrigation, as well as provision for serving the needs of the region in the future.

The contract consists of two major land reclamation sub-projects. The wider project area is located west of the Acheloos River and includes the areas of Amvrakia, Amphilochia, Katouna, Konopina and Valtos. It is located within the administrative boundaries of the municipalities of Amphilochia and Xiromeros.

In total, the project will include the construction of a reservoir of 17,000 cubic metres, 9 reservoirs, 3 pumping stations, 46 ditches, 121 km of pipelines for the transport and distribution of water in 11 irrigation zones, and many other accompanying works, such as flood control, drainage networks, culverts, stream settlements, agricultural networks, etc. The projects will extend over a particularly large area of nearly 38,000 hectares and, upon completion, will provide modern irrigation for more than 33,000 hectares of land in Amvrakia and the district of Valtos. It is noteworthy that the total water needed for irrigation of these projects amounts to more than 9 million cubic meters of water.
