The turnover of businesses operating in the sectors of accommodation and food services increased by 14.8% in May, according to data from the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT).
Specifically, for businesses in the accommodation sector (division 55 of the NACE Rev.2 classification), with the obligation to keep double-entry books, for which data are available on a monthly basis, turnover in May 2024 amounted to 806,935,197 euros, an increase of 15.8% compared to May 2023, when it had amounted to 697,093,343 euros.
For enterprises in the catering services sector (NACE Rev. 2 division 56), which are required to keep double-entry books and for which data are available on a monthly basis, turnover in May 2024 amounted to EUR 247,129,448, an increase of 11.8% compared with May 2023, when it stood at EUR 221,026,505.
In aggregate, for enterprises in the accommodation and food service activities (NACE Rev. 2 divisions 55 and 56), which are required to keep double-entry books and for which data are available on a monthly basis, turnover in May 2024 amounted to EUR 1,054,064,645, an increase of 14.8% compared to May 2023, when it stood at EUR 918,119,848.
For the regional units with a contribution to the total turnover of the year 2023 higher than 1.0%, the largest increase in turnover in May 2024 compared to May 2023 was observed in the regional unit of Heraklion (24.5%), and the smallest increase (3.8%) was recorded in the regional unit of Achaia.
