What is really going on with the Aretsous marina in Kalamaria
The concession of the Kalamaria marina in eastern Thessaloniki is the subject of a heated dispute between the local government and the Hellenic Republic Asset Development Fund (TAIPED). This is because, following the Municipality of Kalamaria, the Region of Central Macedonia opposes the entry of a private investor into the asset.

The battle is raging between the local government and the Hellenic Republic Asset Development Fund (TAIPED), with the concession of the Kalamaria marina in eastern Thessaloniki, as after the Municipality of Kalamaria, the Region of Central Macedonia is against the entry of a private investor in the asset.

In a statement, TAIPED gives answers to the reactions of stakeholders and citizens to the development of the Aretsous Marina in Kalamaria, arguing on eight points for which concerns and objections were expressed during the consultation of the Environmental Impact Study (EIS) of the project.

It is recalled that the municipality of Kalamaria rejected the EIS in early July, with Mayor Chrysa Arapoglou calling the study "anti-developmental" and "unthinkable,"  while a few days later the Metropolitan Unit of Thessaloniki unanimously gave a negative opinion on the study. It is noted that objections have been expressed by associations, bodies, and residents of the municipality.

In this context, after noting that the Greek state "has recognised the ultra-local character of the Kalamaria marina as a tourist destination and recreational area for the region of Thessaloniki, as early as 1993 with the first zoning of the marina,"  the State Council gave the green light for the master plan approved by Presidential Decree and providing for a new zoning in 2023, which "did not add any new use to what was already in force since 1993.".
