Ameresco Sunel Energy has been awarded the construction of Lightsource BP's 560 MW Enipeas solar project in Greece.

According to a statement, the flagship project is one of the largest solar power installations in Europe, underscoring Greece's commitment to sustainable energy and a resilient economy.

Ameresco Sunel Energy is a joint venture between Ameresco, a provider of integrated clean technology services specializing in energy efficiency and renewable energy, and Sunel Group, an international contractor in the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) of photovoltaic projects.

Lightsource BP, a leading company in the development and management of solar energy projects, started operations in the UK in 2010 and has since developed solar projects totaling over 9.5 GW in 19 markets worldwide.

The Larissa and Fthiotida regions are home to the Enipeas project, which the European Union is co-funding through the NextGenerationEU fund. The project includes two clusters: Skopia, a southern cluster of 400 MWp, and Kallithea, a northern cluster of 160 MWp, where almost 970,000 photovoltaic panel units will be installed. Upon completion, the project is expected to generate 0.90 TWh of electricity per year, powering 225,000 households and avoiding carbon dioxide emissions by 379 kilotonnes per year.
