A bankruptcy petition, which is expected to be discussed on October 11, was filed at the Thessaloniki Court of First Instance at the historic Tsantalis winery, asking for the date of the suspension of payments to be set. As the president of the company's Employees' Union, Sakis Kaligas, who confirmed the filing of the petition and the date of its hearing, told APE-MPA, the company has stopped production in August 2023, while for the first time in its history the harvest did not take place, so it cannot bottle and market products of the new vintage.

The news of the bankruptcy filing may have shaken things up, but it was not a bolt from the blue, given that the company was facing persistent problems despite its frantic efforts to survive and find an investor. Asked whether the interest of Sterner Stenhus, Hellenic Wineries," in Tsantalis (the company that acquired Boutaris Wineries) has finally and irrevocably waned, Kaligas clarified that he did not know: "We only hear rumors; the only thing we are interested in is that an investor finally comes to the company and we can get back to work.".
