The Supreme Court prosecutor's office has issued a complete exoneration of any government or state official in connection with the phone tapping case.

As is clear from the announcement:

The investigation by the Justice Department has not revealed any connection between the NIS or any other state agency (ELAS or Anti-Terrorism) with the Predator malware and the alleged illegal surveillance, politicians, state officials, journalists, etc.

⁃ The case as to the NIS, other state agencies, and individuals who served in key positions is being filed both by Deputy Prosecutor Achilleas Zisis, who submitted a 300-page conclusion, and by the Prosecutor of the Supreme Court herself, who agreed with the Zisis conclusion.

⁃ Four persons, representatives of companies that were involved in one way or another with the malware, were indicted for a misdemeanor due to the (more lenient) law that was passed in 2019 under the SYRIZA government. These were the four who had been summoned for an anonymous explanation as suspects, namely Ioannis Lavrano, Sara Aleksandra Hamu, Tal Jonathan Dilian, and Felix Bigios.

⁃ The referral for trial, as explained in the prosecutor's statement, is only for the misdemeanor of violating telephone privacy because the more favorable law prevails, as now offenses of this type are felonies.

At the same time, as Mrs. Adilini's statement stresses, three independent authorities were involved in the investigation, in addition to the judiciary.

In particular, as stated in the announcement, "the Hellenic Data Protection Authority (Hellenic Data Protection Authority), the Hellenic Communications Privacy Authority (Hellenic Communications Privacy Authority), and the National Transparency Authority (NCA) conducted investigations and on-site inspections in public institutions: the Ministry of Citizen Protection (ELAS), the National Intelligence Service (NIS), as well as companies, and submitted their reports and findings.".

Dozens of witnesses were examined, including "politicians, journalists, representatives of mobile phone companies, commanders and deputy commanders, and other members of the National Intelligence Service (NIS) over the last 10 years, members of the Communications Confidentiality Authority (CSA) and the National Transparency Authority (NSA), senior officers of the Hellenic Police, the Directorate of Information Management and Analysis, the Directorate of Finance Headquarters, etc., in recent years, as well as the Directorate of Electronic Crime, and a total of more than forty (40) witnesses."

A 300-page report was submitted by Deputy Prosecutor Achilleas Zisis, detailing all actions, including the expert reports conducted, the requests for judicial assistance submitted to the US and Switzerland and answered, and a detailed report on the actions of the judiciary in conjunction with other independent or state authorities.

Last but not least, it is important to note that Vasiliki Vlachou's discharge, which received proper approval, followed the Supreme Court's disciplinary investigation of her.
