On July 26, 2024, the second phase of the tender for the sale of 20% of the 20% stake in IPTO's subsidiary, "Ariadni Interconnection SAES," the operator of the Attica-CCrete electricity interconnection, was completed.
State Grid International Development Belgium Ltd. submitted a legally binding offer, as IPTO had previously announced. The evaluation process has already started on the part of IPTO.
The electricity interconnection of Crete with the mainland system (Attica) with a transmission capacity of 1 GW, using direct current (DC) technology, is the largest and most complex electricity transmission project in Greece and one of the three deepest maritime interconnections in the world.
The construction leg of the project, one of the few in the world that uses innovative VSC (Voltage Source Converters) technology to convert AC to DC, is almost complete, while cabling and erection of the outdoor equipment are ongoing, to be followed by cable electrification.
