Greece proposes Apostolos Tzitzikostas as EU Commissioner, as announced by the government spokesman.

As announced by government spokesman Pavlos Marinakis, "Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has already informed the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen.".

"Apostolos Tzitzikostas is a person with experience in institutional roles both in Greece and in Europe, where in 2020 he was elected President of the European Committee of the Regions. At the same time, the regional governor of Central Macedonia is a young man who has been elected three times with a percentage of more than 50%," Marinakis said.

The government spokesman added that "this is a choice with political characteristics that highlights the importance of Macedonia and Northern Greece for Europe as a region with a strategic position, interconnectivity, and geopolitical importance both for the Balkans and Southeast Europe, and as the northeastern edge of the Mediterranean.".

The Prime Minister will have a meeting with Mr. Tzitzikostas at the Maximou Mansion at six o'clock in the afternoon.
