The three PPC Group companies in Romania (Reţele Electrice Muntenia, Reţele Electrice Banat, and Reţele Electrice Dobrogea), which manage 140,000 km of electricity networks in the Balkan country, have secured €38.3 million (191 million lei) in financing from the Modernization Fund. The businesses are a part of the assets that PPC in Romania acquired after buying Enel Romania.
The networks owned by PPC, through the three companies, represent the most critical parts of the electricity distribution infrastructure in Romania. In particular, one section (Muntenia) covers the greater area of the Romanian capital, the second (Banat), the industrial zone of the country and the third (Dobrogea), the tourist area.
The companies will carry out an equal number of projects, each in the region it manages, with a total budget of €53,2 million (Leu 265 million). The projects are aimed at improving the quality of services provided to consumers. They provide for the modernisation of more than 90 transformers, some 126 km of medium-voltage networks, 170 km of low-voltage networks and the rehabilitation of some 5 000 connections.
The budget for the project that Rețele Electrice Muntenia will carry out is €12,3 million (Leu 61,4 million), with €9,7 million (Leu 48,3 million) in financing from the Modernization Fund. A total of 58 transformers will be modernised, of which 25 existing and 33 are new. The medium-voltage network will also be upgraded, with 57 km of cables replaced and 22.6 km of new networks installed. In addition, the low-voltage network will be extended by about 6 km.
The budget of the projects of Rețele Electrice Dobrogea amounts to €16,3 million (81,3 million lei), of which €11,45 million will come from the Modernization Fund. The objective is, inter alia, to modernise 85 km of medium- and low-voltage networks.
