The Athens Stock Exchange is in a holding pattern at the beginning of the week, with sellers trying to stop the momentum of buyers, who have been firmly at the helm for five consecutive sessions.

Somehow, the Greek market seems ready to take a brief pause to digest the recovery rally (+6.7%) from the August 5 sell-off, which has brought the 2024 total return back to double-digit levels (>10%).

At the same time, analysts' attention is focused on global developments, with the Jackson Hole banking conference in the US being the major event of the day, given the correlations for the interest rate path.

More specifically, in the first session of the week, the General Index is down marginally by 0.06% to 1,431.06 points, losing about one point compared to Friday's close (1,431.88 points).

The arc of the daily fluctuations extends over four points (from 1,428.44 to 1,432.13 points), with the turnover of the trading volume hovering at just 2.5 million in the first 20 minutes.

On the board, now, Helleniq Energy shares are trying to stand out, gaining more than +1.5%. On the other hand, banking stocks show small losses of up to -0.6%, while OPAP and Titan lose up to 0.7%.

Alpha Bank shares retreat -0.68% and EUR 1,596, Piraeus shares are down -0.60% and EUR 3,962, Eurobank shares trade -0.54% and EUR 2,034, while Ethniki shares follow at -0.15% and EUR 8,102.

In the high-cap index (-0.16% and 3,487 points), Helleniq Energy's shares expand +1.5% and 7.1 euros, with shares of Elvalhalcor, Motor Oil, and Aegean following below +1%. At the same time, Autohellas shares attempt to recover from year lows, gaining 1.2%. On the flip side, shares of Lamda, EYDAP and Titan Cement retreat by 0.7%, while OPAP's share price retracts by 0.6%.

As for the mid-cap index (-0.61% and 2,269 points), ADMIE shares stand out negatively at -1.2% and 2.10 euros. Optima, Intralot, Intracom, Intralot and Austriacard all lose at least 0.5% each.
