The Athens Stock Exchange is fluctuating slightly today (20/8), with the Greek market showing signs of reasonable fatigue after the six-day upward streak and the +6.7% from the "Black Monday" of August 5th.
Investors have turned their eyes abroad, as, in the absence of domestic news, they are taking their cue from developments on the international interest rate front, especially US rates, which remain at historic highs.
This week, moreover, the Jackson Hole banking conference is taking place, where all eyes are on the speech by the head of the Federal Reserve, Jerome Powell. And all this is happening ahead of the crucial monetary decisions in September.
The arc of daily fluctuations extends over six points (from 1,428.35 to 1,434.65 points), with trading turnover of just 2 million euros in the first 15 minutes.
On the board now, banks are showing mixed signs, with Ethniki and Alpha losing up to 0.5%. The shares of OPAP - Titan are also down by about 1%, while the shares of GEK-Titan are up by almost 1%.
The banking index is almost unchanged, as it is currently at -0.07% and 1,273.64 points, 5.5% away from this year's high of 1,354 points.
NBG's shares are limited to -0.44% and 8.08 euros; Alpha Bank's shares are retracing -0.31% and 1.59 euros; Piraeus' shares are trading +0.08% and 3.92 euros; and Eurobank's shares are up +0.25% and 2.025 euros.
In the high-cap index (-0.07% and 3,488 points), GEK TERNA's share expands +0.9% and 17.6 euros, further improving this year's performance, which is approaching +35%. At the same time, the shares of Helleniq Energy, Ellaktor, and Autohellas show gains of 1%. On the other hand, shares of OPAP, PPC, Titan Cement, and Coca-Cola are losing 0.5%.
As for the mid-cap index (-0.06% and 2,259 points), Kri Kri's shares continue to climb, reaching an all-time high of 12.4 euros (+1.6%). Intracom follows at +1.5%, while shares of Lavipharm and Optima gain 0.8% each. In contrast, shares of Profile and Intralot retreated by 0.7%.
