Athens International Airport has completed the first half of the year with a strong performance as a significant increase in passenger traffic and positive dynamics of its commercial activities were recorded.

Athens International Airport has completed the first half of the year with a strong performance as a significant increase in passenger traffic and positive dynamics of its commercial activities were recorded.

In particular, according to the financial results for the six months ended 30 June 2024 announced today:

  • Total revenues and other income increased by €42.3 million or 16.8% to €293.6 million in 1H 2024, with Airline and Non-Airline revenue streams showing a significant improvement mainly due to a 16.0% increase in passenger traffic as well as dynamic revenue growth from commercial activities.
  • Adjusted EBITDA amounted to EUR 183.4 million, an increase of 16.6% compared to H1 2023, while the adjusted EBITDA margin was 62.5%.
  • Profit After Taxes increased by EUR 12.8 million to EUR 97.1 million, an increase of 15.2% compared to EUR 84.3 million in H1 2023.
  • Healthy Financial Position with net debt of EUR 781.3 million and a Net Debt to Adjusted EBITDA ratio of 2.0x.

PASSENGERS 

Overall, in the first half of 2024, the airport's passenger traffic totalled 14.01 million, up 16.0% compared to the same period in 2023. More specifically, domestic and international passengers exceeded 2023 levels by 8.6% and 19.5%, respectively.

The passenger traffic levels recorded are indicative of the consistently strong demand for air travel, with the momentum of the first three months of the year continuing into the current summer season. The strong passenger traffic trend confirms AIA's successful strategy to develop its network of served destinations and passenger traffic, the attractiveness of Athens as a destination, as well as the healthy dynamics of leisure travel.
