6.6% increase in turnover in July
Turnover in the country's retail trade businesses, which are required to keep double-entry books and for which data are available on a monthly basis, increased by 6.6% in July this year and amounted to €4.25 billion compared to €3.99 billion in July 2023.

Turnover in the country's retail trade businesses, which are required to keep double-entry books and for which data are available on a monthly basis, increased by 6.6% in July this year and amounted to €4.25 billion euros, compared to €3.99 billion in July 2023. At the same time, there was an increase of 8.9% compared to June 2024, which stood at €3.91 billion.

For enterprises in the retail trade sector, excluding the motor vehicles, food, and fuel sectors, which are required to keep double-entry books, for which data are available on a monthly basis, turnover in July 2024 amounted to 1.22 billion euros, an increase of 5.8% compared to 1.15 billion euros in July 2023 and an increase of 11.9% compared to 1.09 billion euros in June 2024.

According to ELSTAT, for enterprises in the retail trade sector, the activities that showed the largest increase in turnover in July 2024 compared to July 2023 are:

  • Retail sale of watches and jewellery in specialised stores (15.6%).
  • Wholesale of motor vehicle parts and accessories (14.5%).

While the activities that showed a decrease are:

  • Retail sale of footwear and leather goods in specialised stores (26.1%).
  • Retail sale of electrical household appliances in specialised stores (8.6%).

The regions with the largest increase in turnover are:

  • Region of Western Greece (10.1%).
  • Region of Central Macedonia (9%).

For retail trade enterprises, excluding motor vehicles, food, and fuel, with double-entry bookkeeping obligations and for which data are available on a monthly basis:

The regions that showed an increase in turnover in July 2024 compared to July 2023 are:

  • Region of Attica (4.4%).
  • Region of Sterea Ellada (4.3%).

In contrast, the region that showed a decrease is that of Western Greece (1.9%). For small and medium-sized enterprises in retail trade, which are required to keep double-entry books and for which data are available on a monthly basis, turnover in July 2024 amounted to €1.52 billion, an increase of 10.8% compared to July 2023, when it stood at €1.38 billion.

For small and medium-sized enterprises in retail trade, excluding motor vehicles, food, and fuel, for which data are available on a monthly basis, turnover in July 2024 amounted to €0.61 billion, an increase of 6.9% compared to €0.57 billion in July 2023.
