Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Tayyip Erdogan reviewed progress in political dialogue and the positive agenda at their meeting in New York yesterday, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly. They agreed to intensify cooperation on migration to dismantle the networks of traffickers who endanger human lives.
At the same time, they instructed the Foreign Ministers of the two countries to begin preparations for the convening of the next High Cooperation Council between Greece and Turkey, to be held in Ankara in January 2025.
On the Cyprus issue, the Greek side reiterated the firm positions of Athens and Nicosia and stressed the need to resume the dialogue between the two sides under the auspices of the UN.

Senior government sources spoke of a meeting in a good atmosphere after the meeting, according to ERTnews political reporter Dimitris Gatsios.
The meeting was shorter in duration due to the fact that it was held on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly. According to a senior government source, Mitsotakis raised the Cyprus issue with the Turkish president. As he noted, "our position is firm and stable on the Cyprus problem. Athens remains optimistic that the dialogue between the two sides will begin under the auspices of the UN."
